A Soldier's Adieu

He punched the air with a breathe of success,

She smiled with a pinch of worry across her eyes...

Each day he worked hard with excitement and happiness,

And each day her agitation grew,

He got suit up to leave with pride,

She didn't take her eyes off him a bit,

He bent down for her blessings to succeed,

She placed her hands and prayed in her heart,

He hugged everyone and waved a good bye,

Her tears  called him back times again,

As he pulled his hands off hers and left...

Days and months passed flew by,

She was all ears for the phone to ring,

And all eyes for post to arrive,

Her heart trembled with fright,

And her mind got drenched in thoughts,

For it was her life fighting for his nation,

Days went by without a call ,

She stared at the phone if but it rang,

She looked through the window if someone's coming....

Suddenly, the phone rang, she pulled it up,

And hello she yelled in joy,

But the voice otherside wasn't familiar,

She couldn't swallow all she heard,

She tried to breathe as hard as she could,

She couldn't stand so she held on to everything around..

Early the morning next,

He came back not alone but,

All in uniform, all heads held up with pride,

They left him for her to see,

And saluted him in unison...

She cried and hugged him tightly

Asking him to wake and speak,

He didn't ...

It was always the coffin she feared

From the day he punched the air in joy,

It was this silence of the coffin she feared from the beginning,

But little did she thought,

It was only the TRI-COLOUR above,

He could see.

It was this TRI COLOUR,

For which he waited his entire life,

And now he left the world

Hugged and covered by the TRI-COLOUR

He was silent but still his face was bright,

He didn't breathe but his chest was still

Held with pride ...

Yes he smiled as he waved a goodbye....
